Helgafell við Mosfellsdal
Description
Helgafell in Mosfellsdalur may not be a very high mountain but it is quite well suited for outings. Several routes have been mapped and marked around the mountain as well as a few different ways to hike the mountain. You can therefore choose between different routes depending on your interest or the weather and conditions. The route shown here on the map below starts on the west side, close to the intersection with Þingvallavegur (GPS N.64.10.640 W. 21.40.145). It is only a short hike until you reach the highest peak (GPS N.64.10.447 W. 21.39.095) but from there you can follow the trails along the mountain towards the east to get to another peak. (GPS N.64.10.443 W. 21.38.453) You descend down from the eastern side and enter the road through Skammadalur and then further along the northern side of the mountain to return to the starting point again. All routes are well marked, please make sure to stay on the tracks and why not send a mental thanks to the municipality of Mosfellsbær for their good work marking these trails.
