Þverbrekknamúli
Please book your bed in the hut through the blue button located up to the right on this page.
The hut Þverbrekknamúli, owned and run by Ferðafélag Íslands (The Iceland Touring Association, FÍ) is situated southeast of Mt. Hrútfell, near river Fúlakvísl. The hut was built in 1980 and accommodates 20 people in 10 double bunk beds.
The house has an entrance and an open space that houses both the sleeping quarters, tables and chairs and a kitchenette with utensils and running cold water that has to be pumped from a tank outside the house. The house is heated with gas and an oil-stove. A toilet is near the hut and a winter latrine/outhouse a bit further away.
Guests have to take their trash along with them and leave nothing behind at the lodge.
The hut is near the middle of the hiking trail on the ancient Kjölur route. The fifth bridge across river Fúlakvísl was built in 2005. The others have either been swept away by floods or not withstood the weight of the winter snow.
